What do you need to be able to do as a professional Chinese translator?

A sworn Chinese translator is primarily concerned with translating source texts into Chinese. Whether a Chinese translator is a native speaker of Chinese or has taken a course, he or she must always meet a number of requirements. For example, a (higher professional) education through a translation academy or training for interpreters and translators is a requirement. In these courses, they focus specifically on the Chinese language.

Not only a perfect command of the Chinese language is necessary for a Chinese translator. Knowledge of the language and culture and its norms and values is also important. Other qualities such as decisiveness, diligence and accuracy are also important for a Chinese translator.

How do you become a sworn Chinese translator?

Not all Chinese translators are also sworn. You don't become a sworn Chinese translator overnight. A registration in the Dutch register for sworn interpreters and translators (Rbtv) is a requirement to become a sworn translator. Only then may you deliver a sworn translation. Documents that are often sworn translated include your passport, marriage certificate or driver's licence.

We have listed further specific requirements to be able to register in the Rbtv for you.
