What do you need to be able to do as a professional Korean translator?
A Korean translator has completed special language training. For example, a translation academy or other language training at college or university level, such as the training for interpreters and translators. Here they learn all the intricacies of the Korean language but also of the Dutch language. In addition, there is no difference between a native Korean translator and a non-native Korean translator; he or she will still need to follow special language training in order to be able to perform a translation from or into Korean professionally.
It goes without saying that a professional Korean translator must be fluent in the language. But, that's not all; it's also very important to understand the Korean culture and the norms and values of this country. This is all necessary for a Korean translator to produce a perfect translation. Certain qualities such as meticulousness and decisiveness when making linguistic decisions also come in handy.
How do you become a sworn Korean translator?
That's a good question! Being a Korean translator does not make you a sworn Korean translator. There is just a little more to this. To become a sworn Korean translator, you have to register in the Dutch register for sworn interpreters and translators (Rbtv). You won't be admitted here just like that. You have to meet the strict requirements of the Rbtv. Have you been admitted? Then you will have to go through one last step; being sworn in by a court of law. Once you are sworn in, you are only authorised to make sworn translations as a sworn Korean translator.

Where do our Korean translators come from?
The sworn Korean translators at Beëdigd Vertaalbureau live in the Netherlands. In most cases they were born in Korea and later moved to The Netherlands. They may also have been born in the Netherlands, but have Korean parents, for example, so that they are fluent in the language. All sworn Korean translators we engage for Korean translation jobs are carefully selected. For example, we have qualitative standards which they will have to meet. These qualitative standards are based on education and experience of the translator, among other things. We do this for a good reason, namely to be able to assure you that your translation will be performed to perfection.
