What do you need to be able to do as a professional German translator?

What exactly can a professional German translator do? First, of course, this requires education. Think of a Vertaalacademie or a college education for interpreters and translators. Within these programs one is trained to be a professional German translator. In addition, someone who speaks German as a native language can also act as a translator. However, they also need translation training. So, merely speaking German as a mother tongue is not enough to call yourself a professional German translator.

To make a good translation, you obviously need to be able to do more than just translate well. Knowledge of the culture is of great importance in a translation. We take this into account when selecting our sworn translators. Other qualities are also important. Being able to formulate accurately, work carefully and be decisive are important for good translations.

How do you become a sworn translator German?

Not every translator is a sworn translator. A sworn translator must be registered with the Dutch register For Sworn interpreters And Translators(Rbtv). To be listed in this register as a translator, you must meet several requirements. In order to remain registered with the Rbtv you will also have to undergo further training. In this way the Rbtv maintains quality standards for translators. Our sworn German translators are registered with the Rbtv as a prerequisite for being allowed to do "official" translations.
